Health Survey for England 2000

Drawing data from the Health Survey for England 2000, this report looks at the influence of social factors on the health of adults of all ages in private households. It considers issues such as: the extent of social networks, including perceived social support and contact with friends and family; levels of trust in people generally; participation in organised activities; neighbourhood problems; and ease of access to services. The report concludes that some measures of social capital have a significant impact on health variables; for example, a perceived lack of social support networks and trust in people in general was found to impact on self-assessed health and mental health state.
