Bunch Grass

Bush Grass is special in that the author lived the stories that he writes about. Horace Vachell (1861¿1955) was an English writer of novels, plays, short stories, essays and autobiographical works. After serving in the Rifle Brigade, he went to California where he became partner in a land company. The stories in Bunch Grass (1912) are set in American ranching country. Vachell went to a wild untamed California in the 1880¿s. His stories tell of his time on a cattle ranch. It was a time of cattle rustlers, gangs of outlaws and arguments settled with a gun
