Promise of Home

They say you can't go home again. If only that were true. Growing up, I'd been in love with my best friend as long as I could remember. He was handsome, and smart, and always there for me, but I never let him know how I felt. The summer after my freshman year of college, I went through the worst time of my life. He was there for me, just like always. We became closer than ever, and it soon became obvious that he had spent most of our lives feeling the same way I had. We got together, and everything fell into place. It felt like things couldn't be more perfect, but when we went back to school, everything changed. Since that summer, I had avoided him every time I visited home. There was no reason to think I couldn't continue bury my broken heart forever. Fate had other plans. When he walked in to join us for a family dinner, my heart stopped beating. I thought I'd built him up in my memory to be more handsome than he really was. I had not. That handsome boy had grown into a gorgeous man... one that was standing in my house. He wanted answers, and another chance. When he was determined, he was a force to be reckoned with, and I knew I was in trouble. When he launches a full-blown charm assault to win my heart, I want nothing more than to take a chance. He was everything I had ever wanted. The problem is, if I let him in back into my life, I'll have to tell him a secret I've kept hidden for years... a secret that will break his heart.
